Roy's Blog

TV viewers who watched our hit TV show 'Pawn Stars SA,' on History (DStv channel 186) can now own a famous item featured in the programme.

We are going to start holding auctions at our shop, Cash Inn in Hyde Park, and we intend auctioning off about 43 000 items over the next few months.

We have a massive range of items to auction from impressive works of arts and sports memorabilia, to an original bronze casting of Professor Chris Barnard's hands, and from a piece of literary history from Nobel Prize-winning author Nadine Gordimer to work by home designers.

Over the past few months we have been collecting more items for the auctions which are going to be unique. We are working out the final details of the auction, when they are going to take place and times, but read my blog and you will get more information soon.

Cash-strapped customers have brought in some bizarre items over the years and these have included a glass eye, grandma's false teeth and even a vibrator. "We have even been offered a kidney for sale, a herd of cattle. One customer removed his shoes and wanted to sell it to us," Peretz recalls.

In these tough economic times people are looking for ways to make extra money, but not many realise that there could be a treasure chest waiting to be discovered in the attic or storeroom. There is definitely hidden gold in people's homes - if only they would take the trouble to look around.

Often people come into the shop with items they found gathering dust and ask if it has any value. Nine times out of ten times it may not be gold but there is always a chance that it's a valuable discovery and we will pay its true value.

With more than 20 years in the pawn industry I have become something of a psychologist, meeting people from all walks of life. A woman once wanted to sell a helicopter, while one smart gentleman handed over the keys to his Ferrari, an occurrence that doesn't often happen in the pawn business.

Visit us at 341 Jan Smuts Avenue, Hyde Park, near Hyde Park corner, and bring you gold, your jewellery, your watches - and even your cars. Rather pawn your car than sell it.

Our team at Cash Inn are specialists in many fields such antiques, fine art, sports memorabilia and more. We are open six days a week and you can meet the personalities you hear and on ChaiFM (Wednesday nights 6-7 and Thursday mornings from 9 until 10) and saw on TV when we did Pawn Stars SA on History.
